Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
March 7th, 2010 by Pastor Ed in devotionalPaul has settled the matter long ago concerning his old life and directs us to do the same. The old self-centered “I” has been crucified (died) with Jesus Christ so that it no longer has any right to live. Our job as believers is to see that it doesn’t live and that it is left in the watery grave of our baptism. Many years ago a young man approached his pastor with this question, “What does it mean as far as this life is concerned to be ‘crucified with Christ’?” The pastor told him this, “It means three things. First someone on a cross is facing in only one direction. Secondly that person is not ever going back and thirdly they have no further plans of their own.” Many believers are trying to face in two directions at once because they have a divided heart. Too many people want to go to heaven, but they also love the world. Lot’s wife had the same problem of running away from danger and running away in one direction but facing backwards because her heart was still in the life she enjoyed too much back in Sodom. Secondly a crucified person is never coming back. Death separates them completely from the life they once knew.. That person has settled the matter in their heart and never want to go back to their old life ever again because the chains are broken. Lastly they have no plans of their own because their plans did not work out. They are surrendered all self generated plans and only wait for their destiny. God has a planned destiny for every believer that includes laboring in His Kingdom and spending eternity in His presence. So let’s run towards that fresh new adventure of Life that God hold out to us again this morning. Give Him all you have and He will give you the desires of your heart.
