First, He destroyed those who enslaved them; and, secondly, He carried them like a loving mother eagle. Biologists have observed eagle parents dropping and then catching their young, when necessary, on their outspread wings. The same idea is repeated in Deuteronomy 32:11–12: “As an eagle stirs up its nest, / Hovers over its young, / Spreading out its wings, taking them up, / Carrying them on its wings, / So the LORD alone led him, / And there was no foreign god with him. / He made him ride in the heights of the earth.” What a picturesque and striking description of how God desires to work in our lives. He is still delivering people out of their own Egypt and bearing them on His wings.

God used this picture again through the prophet Isaiah to tell us that He wants us to learn to fly, to soar like eagles: “But those who wait on the LORD / Shall renew their strength; / They shall mount up with wings like eagles, / They shall run and not be weary, / They shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). God protects us like an eagle parent and wants us to learn to soar like an eagle. An eagle, when he flies, is careful to conserve his energy. Eagles ride thermals to towering heights because they “go with the flow.” The hummingbird, on the other hand, does just the opposite, flapping their wings faster than the human eye can even see. You know when God is calling you, because you feel that “thermal” of the Holy Spirit stirring your heart. Fellow eaglets, God wants us to catch three things here: 1) He will take care of the enemy, 2) He will carry us along as eagles do their young, and 3) He wants us to learn to soar on the thermals He provides. Why? Because, as He says, He wants to bring us to Himself.

“LORD, we look to You to teach us and carry us through this day.”

=============================================================

Exodus 19 KJV

1 In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai. 2 For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount. 3 And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; 4Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. 5 Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: 6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation.
