Notice that Moses frankly tells us that he “pleaded with the Lord,” but God still said no. Moses was called a friend of God. He was even given a privileged look at God’s physical manifestation after God walked by him on Mount Sinai. But even that special, close relationship with God did not guarantee that Moses got whatever he asked for. And in this instance, Moses clearly asked God for something he didn’t get. So we should not be surprised or discouraged when sometimes God says no to our request.

Moses wasn’t allowed into the land because he had disobeyed God (Numbers 20:1–13). A careful reading shows us that Moses was actually praying against what God had already told Moses He was going to do. But this wasn’t quite the end of the story. In the New Testament we see an amazing example of God’s grace being extended 1400 years later, as God finally allowed Moses into the Promised Land when he stood with Jesus and Elijah on the Mount of Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1–13). We also see in this a brief glimpse of our ongoing relationship with our Creator.

God still cared about Moses’ desperate desire long, long after Moses had already gone to be with Him. We can’t help but think of some of the desires of our own hearts that God has not said yes to. Perhaps this example of Moses means that some of them might still be answered long after we have gone to be with the Lord. This is a mind-bending idea that may require more thoughtful consideration in the years to come. But one thing we can be certain of is that God cares for us. God never says no just to disappoint or frustrate us. If He has said no, you can rest and feel safe in that no, and if He has said not yet or been silent, then you never know what’s ahead, just keep praying.

“LORD, we trust Your answers; have your way in our lives this day.”

=============================================================

Deuteronomy 3 KJV

1 Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei. 2 And the LORD said unto me, Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into thy hand; and thou shalt do unto him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon. 3 So the LORD our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him until none was left to him remaining. 4 And we took all his cities at that time, there was not a city which we took not from them, threescore cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 5 All these cities were fenced with high walls, gates, and bars; beside unwalled towns a great many. 6 And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city. 7But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities, we took for a prey to ourselves. 8 And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that wason this side Jordan, from the river of Arnon unto mount Hermon; 9 (Which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion; and the Amorites call it Shenir;) 10 All the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, unto Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 11 For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon?
