We know he penned the “Song of Deliverance” in Exodus 15, the “Teach Us Song” of Psalm 90, and this song recorded in Deuteronomy 32. It was in Deuteronomy 31 that God commanded Moses to write down this song, which makes God Himself the song-giver.

God still gives songs to His people. One contemporary Christian singer /songwriter, Annie Herring, says that she is a song-receiver not a songwriter. We understand her point and hope more and more young, modern songwriters will get a hold of this idea. If we seek the LORD for His music, for words that focus on Him (and not so much on us or the church), then we will truly be singing the songs of heaven. As God told Moses:

Now therefore, write down this song for yourselves, and teach it to the children of Israel; put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for Me against the children of Israel (Deut. 31:19).

If we focus on Father God as the Giver of Songs, the Holy Spirit as the Conductor, and Jesus as the Singer among us, then perhaps the Body of Christ could be better utilized by the LORD to draw the world to Himself.

When was the last time you tried to privately sing to God, just you and Him? It is awkward the first time we attempt it, but as we keep practicing, it becomes both easier and more spiritually rich. God desires to hear His people sing to Him. When we do, we are changed to be more and more like Him, conformed to His image.

“LORD give us new songs in our hearts and in our mouths that elevate You to Your proper position before a dying world.”

=============================================================

Deuteronomy 32 KJV

<sup>1</sup> Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak;
