This genealogy and the one found in Luke 3, confirms the line of Jesus from Adam through David. This is critical in proving that the Old Testament prophecies that the Messiah would come from David and that the son of David would sit on the throne forever (Ps. 89:3\u20134, Jer. 33:15\u201318) were in fact fulfilled in Jesus. Because of the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, all the Jewish lineage records were lost. Therefore, in order to prove that Jesus was the Son of David, He had to be born before 70 AD.<\/p>\n
