And the LORD preserved David wherever he went.&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe Lord preserved David.\u201d It is interesting that this clear statement of God&#8217;s protection and promotion is made twice in this chapter (verse 6 and verse 13). Why repeat it? When Hebrew writers desired to strongly emphasize something, they often repeat the same thought in a slightly different way. Was there a danger David might be tempted to think he was gaining all these victories because of his own talents or abilities? Yes, of course.<\/p>\n<p>We are all prone to think more of ourselves than we should. What generally happens when we begin to have a tremendous string of victories? We begin to think something like, &#8220;Goodness, isn&#8217;t everyone lucky to have me around.&#8221; If you find that God is starting to use you in His kingdom, pray (and pray hard) that God keeps you from slipping into this old self-confidence routine.<\/p>\n<p>Missionary Hudson Taylor was scheduled to speak at a large Presbyterian church in Melbourne, Australia. The moderator of the service introduced him in eloquent and glowing terms, telling the large congregation all that Taylor had accomplished in China. He then presented Taylor as &#8220;our illustrious guest.&#8221; Taylor stood quietly for a moment and then opened his message by saying, &#8220;Dear friends, I am but the little servant of an illustrious Master.&#8221; Lasting protection and promotion only comes from God.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cLORD, we remember that You rescued us from sin and slavery, and we remain eternally grateful. Please use us this day to lead someone to You.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<p>=============================================================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 Chronicles 18 KJV<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>1<\/sup>\u00a0Now after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them, and took Gath and her towns out of the hand of the Philistines.\u00a0<sup>2<\/sup>\u00a0And he smote Moab; and the Moabites became David\u2019s servants,\u00a0<em>and\u00a0<\/em>brought gifts. <sup>3<\/sup>\u00a0And David smote Hadarezer king of Zobah unto Hamath, as he went to stablish his dominion by the river Euphrates.\u00a0\u00a0<sup>4<\/sup>\u00a0And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: David also houghed all the chariot\u00a0<em>horses\u00a0<\/em>, but reserved of them an hundred chariots.\u00a0\u00a0<sup>5<\/sup>\u00a0And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadarezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.\u00a0\u00a0<sup>6<\/sup>\u00a0Then David put\u00a0<em>garrisons\u00a0<\/em>in Syria-damascus; and the Syrians became David\u2019s servants,\u00a0<em>and<\/em>brought gifts. Thus the\u00a0LORD\u00a0preserved David whithersoever he went.\u00a0<sup>7<\/sup>\u00a0And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadarezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.\u00a0<sup>8<\/sup> Likewise from Tibhath, and from Chun, cities of Hadarezer, brought David very much brass, wherewith Solomon made the brasen sea, and the pillars, and the vessels of brass.\u00a0<sup>9<\/sup> Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how David had smitten all the host of Hadarezer king of Zobah;\u00a0\u00a0<sup>10<\/sup>\u00a0He sent Hadoram his son to king David, to enquire of his welfare, and to congratulate him, because he had fought against Hadarezer, and smitten him; (for Hadarezer had war with Tou;) and\u00a0<em>with him\u00a0<\/em>all manner of vessels of gold and silver and brass.\u00a0\u00a0<sup>11<\/sup>\u00a0Them also king David dedicated unto the\u00a0LORD, with the silver and the gold that he brought from all\u00a0<em>these<\/em>nations; from Edom, and from Moab, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.\u00a0<sup>12<\/sup> Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah slew of the Edomites in the valley of salt eighteen thousand.\u00a0<sup>13<\/sup>\u00a0And he put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became David\u2019s servants.
