Psalm 99:1: “The LORD reigns; / Let the peoples tremble! / He dwells between the cherubim; / Let the earth be moved!”
April 14th, 2024 by Pastor Ed in devotionalThis psalm declares that God reigns. Regardless of the political situation at any given time, we do not live in a world of anarchy because God, who is sovereign, rules this universe; and is therefore always in control. Because of this, we as believers, shouldn’t look at this world as a place of fate or chance or luck. We can remember that even when nothing seems to be good, God is good. Even when resources seem to be drying up, health failing, and relationships crumbling, there is no panic in heaven. Believers can be assured that every thing that comes into their lives has already been “Father-filtered.” And we who live under this grace should respond with awe, and tremble in reverential wonder and respect. Even the mighty, intelligent, powerful cherubim of heaven recognize that God is high and exalted above every created thing, including themselves.
When troubles and the storms of life come crashing over the sides of our little boat, we are to be confident that God is still in control and accessible to us through prayer and worship. The Apostle Paul told us in 2 Corinthians 4:8–9 that we might be “hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.” All this is possible because the Lord reigns. We should take to heart this excellent advice from missionary to China, Hudson Taylor:
Let us give up our work, our plans, ourselves, our lives, our loved ones, our influence, our all, right into [God’s] hand; and then, when we have given all over to Him, there will be nothing left for us to be troubled about.
“LORD, we see that You are in control and we lay all our burdens at Your feet.”
