Ezekiel 25:1: “The word of the LORD came to me, saying,”
September 18th, 2021 by Pastor Ed in devotionalOver and over again Ezekiel clearly claimed that the words he spoke came from God. This is also a claim the Bible makes about itself, that it is the very word of God, 866 times. We read that holy men of old wrote as the Holy Spirit inspired them. One thing the world may challenge but cannot deny is that the Bible asserts that it is the word of God. This is an internal claim that the reader of Scripture must either accept or reject. However, every reader should do so only after critical, careful, exhaustive study. Because if the claim is true, that these are God’s words to man, then the reader’s eternal destiny rests on what God has said. It would be foolish to make such an important decision based solely on another person’s opinion. Each and every individual must examine and determine, on their own, whether or not this is the record of God’s word to the inhabitants of this planet.
By way of personal testimony, as a biochemist turned pastor, I have read and studied this book more carefully than any book of medicine or science. Scientists can find errors in almost any textbook, in any field of science, that is older than about 5 years; because new discoveries are being made that turn over older views. However, this Book is just the opposite. It is so factual that in the last 100 years it has repeatedly led archaeologist to find lost biblical sites throughout the Middle East.
Historian and author Edwin Rushworth was a skeptic all his life. He doubted the existence of God and did not believe in an afterlife. But he decided that before he died, he should read the Bible for an hour a day, just to see what it said. After his first week of reading, he reportedly said, “Wife, if this book is right, we are all wrong!” After the second week of reading, he said, “Wife, if this book is right, we are lost!” He kept on reading, and after the third week, excitedly said, “Wife, if this book is right, we can be saved!” And they were!
“LORD, we trust You this day to keep us walking in the light of Your word.”
