Bio

Steve and Judy Holz have been missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship for 31 years. Along with their children, Jacinda and Christopher, the Holzes spent their first 17 years with MAF serving as a pilot/mechanic family in Africa: Zimbabwe, Transkei, Botswana, and Lesotho. They are currently assigned to MAF headquarters in Nampa, Idaho.

At MAF headquarters, Steve maintains the three Cessna 206 training aircraft, works with the training of maintenance interns, answers questions from overseas staff, and oversees special aircraft projects for worldwide programs.
II Corinthians 1:9 is a special verse for Steve. “Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.” Steve shares that this verse creates a mission statement that “I am dying to myself, but God is giving me His life in Christ.”

Judy enjoyed working alongside Steve for several years at MAF headquarters both in Redlands, CA, and Nampa, ID. She writes the Holz Quarterly newsletter and chats with supporters whenever she can, but the Lord has recently moved Judy back into teaching and working “from home.” She is currently leading a weekly ladies’ Bible study at Calvary Boise, and substitute teaching at area Christian and public schools.

Judy’s “life” verse is Ephesians 2:10 which states, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Judy shares that, being saved from a very legalistic mind-set, and many efforts to work her way into God’s grace, this verse has special meaning for her. “It tells me that we have good works which God has specially designed for us to do, but being created in Christ Jesus, it is only as He works in and through our lives that these works are accomplished.”

Steve was raised in Illinois. He earned a degree in geography at the University of Arizona in Tucson. It was at this university that he accepted the Lord after attending a meeting where the speakers shared Christ. He heard about MAF from a pastor while he was at the University. He also attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and Northrop Institute in California. He holds a commercial pilot’s license with instrument ratings, ground and flight instructor rating and is an airframe and powerplant mechanic.

Judy was raised in Visalia, California. A friend led her to the Lord when she was a student at the University of Redlands. Judy and Steve met while they were attending Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, California. They were married at Calvary Chapel in 1975.

God has called the men and women of MAF to serve Him in a unique way, using aviation and communication technologies. God provides MAF staff ministry support through the people whom He has called to become prayer and financial ministry partners. Will you prayerfully consider if God would have you become a prayer or financial partner with Steve and Judy, as they serve in the ministry of MAF worldwide?
