Amos 4:12: “Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel; / Because I will do this to you, / Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”
November 13th, 2021 by Pastor Ed in devotionalThe concept of preparing to meet their God was first used at Mount Sinai in Exodus 19. Israel was a holy nation, chosen and set apart by God to be used by Him to reach the earth. Since many people in that nation were indifferent to the call of God on their lives, this message was addressed to both the secular and the sacred. This sweeping, all-encompassing message, “prepare to meet your God,” still speaks to every person alive in the world today. The only word we have any control over is prepare. Each of us will meet our God regardless of who we are, what we do, or how spiritually we have lived our lives—we will meet our Creator.
When I was a kid, my grandmother’s visits would bring pandemonium to my parent’s home. All the cleaning that had been put off suddenly got done. Why? Because my mother was sure that Grammy would notice any dust, dirt, or streaked glass, and start cleaning it. The same thing happens when the president announces that he will be visiting a city in the United States. The local authorities make sure that they repair all the roads, paint the street signs, and generally make things look as fresh and good as possible. If any of us knew we had a chance to meet with the president, we would carefully prepare what we would wear and say. So how does a person prepare, or get ready, to meet God Almighty, the Creator and ruler of the Cosmos? We get ready through repentance. And it is never hard to recognize what it is we need to confess and repent of since it is usually the first thing God brings to our minds.
“LORD, we want to be prepared to meet You each and every day, so we need Your forgiveness again this day, in Jesus name, amen.”
