Zephaniah 3:17: “The LORD your God in your midst, / The Mighty One, will save; / He will rejoice over you with gladness, / He will quiet you in His love, / He will rejoice over you with singing.”
December 9th, 2021 by Pastor Ed in devotionalThis verse is a wonder to every believer, and there is a popular praise song based on it. There are five parts to this verse, and they give us an amazing picture of the heart of the Lord:
1) His presence is with His children.
2) He has the power and the desire to give salvation.
3) He rejoices over us because He loves us.
4) He will give us rest, peace, and quiet in His arms of love.
5) And lastly, when the silence is broken, it is replaced with His voice singing over us.
The Hebrew word for joy here is geal, which literally means to “spin around under the influence of a great emotion.” Have you ever been so happy you spun around?
We place a lot of emphasis in church on our singing worship songs, but we can hardly wait until the day we get to hear God sing. There is a similar New Testament verse that is also intriguing. Jesus was with his disciples at the Last Supper, and they sang a psalm together and then went out to the Mount of Olives. We wonder if there is a recording of that moment of Jesus singing with His disciples in heaven. Jesus will sing again, as He rejoices over you with singing.
God delights in you. Now that is a big idea, right? It doesn’t matter if you are struggling, your attitude is terrible, you are depressed, divorced, or disappointed—God delights in you. It doesn’t matter if you are caught up in a pity party, your friends have abandoned you, your kids are a mess, and your job in a disaster. God delights in you so much, He is singing. Listen carefully and maybe you can catch His voice right now.
“LORD, we continue to fall, but You pick us up. We continue to miss the mark, but You cleanse us when we don’t deserve it. You are awesome!”
