Zechariah 6:13: “Yes, He shall build the temple of the LORD. / He shall bear the glory, / And shall sit and rule on His throne; / So He shall be a priest on His throne, / And the counsel of peace shall be between them both.”
December 17th, 2021 by Pastor Ed in devotionalThe rebuilding of the temple was promised to Zerubbabel back in Zechariah 4:9, so this is describing the building of the Messiah’s temple, a temple He would build in the future. This is the temple the Apostle Peter had in mind when he wrote in 1 Peter 2:5, “you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
The way the original temple was built is the same way the Messiah is building us into His temple. “And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built” (1 Kings 6:7). Solomon wanted to make sure the temple mount was filled with only peace and quiet; therefore, the stones were pre-finished down below in the quarry. Believer, we are now living stones down here on planet earth that are being cut, polished, and fit together so that when we arrive in heaven, we will be ready for eternity.
But of course we will also be changed, as different as a butterfly is to a caterpillar—thank God! Someone asked recently if they would know their spouse when they got to heaven, but it seems logical that it is only when we get to heaven that we will really know each other. So many things get in the way here that keep us from really knowing someone else. What a joy, what a day when all the entanglement of sin and the flesh are removed.
“LORD, forgive us for losing sight of the fact that You are fitting us together down here. We surrender to Your way in our lives this day.”
