Romans 5:1–2: “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”
April 30th, 2022 by Pastor Ed in devotionalPaul says we have been “justified by faith.” We remember that justified means “to be declared right before God,” or it’s just as if we never sinned. This does not happen because of sufficient good works but only by faith in what Jesus Christ has done. We are all mere mortals, sinful human beings, and we have countless needs; but our greatest one is not physical but spiritual. Paul tells us that we can have peace with God because the price has been paid in full by the work of Jesus on the cross.
The penalty for our sins, which God’s justice demands, can be eternally satisfied. It happens when we turn our life over to Him—we become justified. Then the peace of God rests on our lives, and we are given unlimited access to God. As many have said in different ways, if our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer. But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us a Savior.
“LORD, we believe in You and ask for Your grace again this day, in Jesus’ name.”
