Hebrews 1:1–2: “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;”
July 22nd, 2022 by Pastor Ed in devotionalThese 2 verses are packed with so much spiritual insight, it is impossible to do them justice in just a few paragraphs. However, if we limit ourselves, we can focus on a couple of points that will lead us to praise and worship. One point these verses reveal is that God exists and that He has repeatedly intervened in history. God created humans for a purpose, He communicated with those humans, and He even maintained a record of that communication in written form—the Bible. Scripture refers to itself as God’s word more than 4000 times. He spoke His word to queens and handmaids, kings and shepherds, priests and paupers, prophets and pilgrims; but each recipient was only given a part of His word, His revelation. God has spoken and left a written record but not everything about God is there. This brings us to another point: God’s full revelation is found in God the Son, Jesus Christ. Those desiring to understand God and His plan for humanity must look to Jesus Christ.
I watched my 4-year-old grandson work on a puzzle one day, and it struck me that life is a puzzle we are all trying to figure out. And that God watches us in much the same way I watched my grandson working those little pieces, twisting and turning them this way and that, until they made the right connection and fit. I was careful to only encourage him, making suggestions and generally helping keep him from becoming frustrated. Each time he found a piece that fit a certain spot, he’d shout with excitement, “Ah ha! Here it is!” It was important for him to learn how to fit the pieces together and come to the correct solution himself. It is the same way in our lives. God waits for us to learn to fit the spiritual pieces together so we can come to the correct solution. As we spend days trying to figure out if we should go here or there, or if we should move out or wait, we are fitting together puzzle pieces. And God and His word encourages us and keeps us from becoming too frustrated. He leads us to certain sermons or verses or songs and suddenly the answer dawns on us. It’s in that ”Ah-Ha” moment that God speaks to us, and all our thoughts come together like two puzzle pieces.
“Word of God, speak to us, give us spiritual eyes and ears to see Your hand in our lives this day.”
