Genesis 10:32: “These were the families of the sons of Noah, according to their generations, in their nations; and from these the nations were divided on the earth after the flood.”

The purpose of the 10th chapter of Genesis is to show us the common relationship, the family tree, of all the people of the world. By it we are reminded that all of mankind is descended from that one family—Noah’s. Where did the nations come from? They all came from the 3 sons of Noah; so all the earth has a common pedigree. God built nations from 1 family.

We all have family trees and today it is possible to quickly trace our ancestry back many generations. There is nothing wrong with that as long as it doesn’t distract us from the greater reality that we are now in Jesus Christ, which means we now are adopted into a new family tree. All who are born again, that have faith in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, are adopted into His family. The Apostle Paul said:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Cor. 5:17–21)

All of us were lost in sin, but when we came to God, He reconciled us. And then—miracle of miracles!—He has given us the amazing privilege of telling others of this reconciliation, available through Jesus Christ, for them and their families. Everyone can become a new creation in Christ and be adopted into the family of God.

“LORD, we thank You for Your adoptive Father’s heart that has opened the door for us to become children of God.”
