Much of the rest of the book of Genesis is focused on the life of Joseph, in fact almost one quarter of the book is devoted to this personality, making his life one of the more detailed in the Bible. Why? Because as we read the life of Joseph, it is easy to see in him a picture of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Joseph is one of only three characters (the other two are Daniel and Jesus) that Scripture does not record committing any sin.

The recordings of the life of both Joseph and the Messiah are about someone who does right and yet seems to be resisted all the more for it. Both were greatly loved by their father and envied by their brothers. Both went from suffering to majesty, becoming the savior of the people that had rejected them. The practical message of Joseph’s life, and ours, is simply to do right and God will take care of the rest.

In this section, Joseph’s brothers are trying to destroy his God-given dreams. Of course no person can kill God-given dreams. Someone said God-given dreams are “the lantern by whose light we pass safely through the dark valleys of life.” God has a plan and a dream (if you will) for us, that of helping Him lead others into the kingdom of God and eternity.

“LORD, please renew in us Your vision of souls saved in You for eternity. Give us courage and sensitivity to share Your love today with someone searching for You.”
