Exodus 2:10: “And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. So she called his name Moses, saying, ‘Because I drew him out of the water.'”

The unseen hand of God was directing Moses’ life as He put this future leader of the Israelites into the position of a king’s son. Although belonging to the royal family gave Moses great privileges, secular history tells us that the 18th dynasty of Egypt enjoyed the finest schools in the world and enjoyed horseback riding and archery, the New Testament tells us that none of these things persuaded Moses to forget his heritage. The writer of Hebrews tells us that when he came of age, he “refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter” (Heb. 11:24).

There are several parallels between the life of Moses and Jesus’ 1400 years later. Both were born in obscurity, were in great peril, and found protection in Egypt. Both took on humble work, one in a shepherd’s field and the other in a carpenter’s shop. Both of their lives were characterized by long periods of silent preparation. Both were rejected by their fellow Jews at their first coming, but Moses was accepted at his second coming just as Jesus will be accepted at His second coming. Both led the children of Abraham. And Abraham married a Gentile bride, just as all of those who come to Christ, both Jew and Gentile, are called His bride. Through both Moses and Jesus, Father God brought salvation and deliverance. God saved Moses so that He could deliver the Israelites, but more importantly to keep the promise alive down to the coming Messiah, Jesus.

To bring about Moses deliverance, God worked behind the scenes in several different ways, through different people. That should give us confidence and hope for today. God is working behind the scenes on our behalf also. He will continue to bring both salvation and deliverance to our lives because He has promised to neither leave us nor forsake us.

“LORD, we trust that You are in control of our lives today even though we usually can’t see Your hand at work until after Your work has been accomplished. Thank you for Your hand of grace on our lives this day.”
