Leviticus 8:6: “Then Moses brought Aaron and his sons and washed them with water.”
December 22nd, 2022 by Pastor Ed in devotionalWith the Tabernacle erect and the furniture in place, Moses gathered the congregation to its entrance and shared God’s instructions. Once again we find Moses as mediator between God and Israel. The priests, Aaron and his sons, were to be presented before the people, but first they had to be prepared.
It is the same for each of us in our lives of service to the Lord. There must first be preparation before presentation. Moses himself spent forty years in the desert learning how to lead, by leading and watching sheep. God told Zechariah in Zechariah 4:10, “Don’t despise the day of small things.” Jesus expounded on this when He said, “The one who is faithful in little will be made ruler over much.” Even Jesus spent His first thirty years in obscurity.
Preparation is always necessary before presentation in the Kingdom of God. These priests were first to be washed with water. Psalm 119:11 says, “How shall a young man cleanse his ways? By taking heed to the word . . . Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against Thee.” In John 15:3 Jesus said, “Now you are clean through the word that I have spoken to you.” Paul tells us in Ephesians 5, “We are washed with the water of the word.”
The effective servant of God is the one who has been washed with the water of the Word. If I want to be used by the Lord I must be first washed in the water of the Word. Once more we find, “The New is in the Old concealed, the Old is in the New revealed.”
“Thank you LORD for cleansing me this day through Your Word.”
