Deuteronomy 29:29: “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.”
March 16th, 2023 by Pastor Ed in devotionalGod wants us to stay focused on the things that really matter in our spiritual journey of life. There are many specific things, morally and ethically, that are clearly spelled out for us in His word. He doesn’t leave us guessing what things are necessary for us to do in order to have a personal relationship with Him. He has carefully given us a written record by the Holy Spirit, through more than 40 human authors, over more than 1300 years.
It is not too simplistic to think of the Bible as the owner’s manual of a new car. A manual supplied by the creator of the vehicle, recording the proper maintenance needed. Most modern cars for example are capable of more than 100,000 miles; however, it’s possible to drive it and completely ignore the maintenance schedule. It’s also possible to abuse the vehicle by using it for things the manufacturer never intended it to be used for. If someone was foolish enough, they could take a new car and use it to pull a plow back and forth over a rough, dusty field; but the car wouldn’t perform nearly as well as a tractor designed for plowing. While the car might be able to complete the job, given enough time and patience by the driver, the vehicle, in the long run, would continually break down. It would not go nearly as far as the engineers who designed it intended for it to go.
We also have an owner’s manual telling us how well we can perform, and how to keep our soul, spirit, and physical bodies maintained. If we follow our Creator’s manual, we will have less breakdowns and we’ll be able to go the distance He designed us to go. There are many things God has not revealed to us about Himself and His creation. There are many things He has not revealed to us about eternity past and future. But the things that are required, the things we need to know, He has faithfully given us, and in a form no one can complain is too complicated or difficult to follow. Salvation is a gift He offers to every person. We must only follow His simple directions to live well and travel on into eternity with Him.
“LORD, we ask for You to lead us along the road of life this day, in Jesus’ name.”
