1 Chronicles 11:10: “Now these were the heads of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the LORD concerning Israel.”
August 30th, 2023 by Pastor Ed in devotionalIn David’s day, it was not an advanced college degree that earned someone the title of a mighty man, but the doing of brave exploits for the king. That is still true today in the kingdom of God. When we look around, we can see mighty men and women of God who are still doing brave exploits for Jesus, the King of kings. Although we might first think of “big name” people who are up in front, in the limelight, God is probably looking elsewhere.
Our God waits for us to take His promises seriously and to boldly go out to share His grace with others. He will back us up with all the resources of heaven, and He is far stronger than anything the enemy can throw at us. God’s mighty warriors are determined people serving a mighty God. They are the men and women of God serving as undercover missionaries in war-torn Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Sudan. They are men and women from closed countries who have chosen to leave the safety of the West and go back and share the good news in their home countries. They are people of God, quietly but firmly, sharing the good news in China, Vietnam, and Pakistan. And they are the men and women who choose daily to speak about Him in their home, school, and work.
A one-legged schoolteacher from Scotland, George Scott, once came to J. Hudson Taylor to offer himself for service in China. “With only one leg, why do you think of going as a missionary?” asked Taylor. “I do not see those with two legs going,” replied Scott. He was accepted, and many listened and were saved in Africa because of his determination.
“LORD, give us Your heart of courage to step up and be men and women of God to others this day.”
