2 Chronicles 14:11–12: “And Asa cried out to the LORD his God, and said, ‘LORD, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O LORD our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!’ So the LORD struck the Ethiopians before Asa and Judah, and the Ethiopians fled.”

King Asa of Judah saw the tremendous Ethiopian army arrayed for battle against him. They outnumbered his troops almost 2 to 1 and even had chariots. Wisely, Asa felt the need to pray. If we have not already, we will all eventually find ourselves in similar tight straits. You know, like that time when you thought you were secure, with money in the bank, good health, and a future that looked bright and rosy; and then suddenly you found yourself outnumbered and up against a circumstance too big for you to handle.

Asa reminded himself, and God, of the reality of the problem: “It is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power.” Asa’s prayer of faith was centered on God’s power and desire to save; and he was right, as God miraculously delivered Judah from the Ethiopian army. God has not changed and is still both powerful enough and interested enough to answer when we call on Him today. Pray in faith and expect Him to answer.

“LORD, don’t let us fail to be what You want us to be this day.”
