Psalm 7:1: “O LORD my God, in You I put my trust; / Save me from all those who persecute me; / And deliver me,”

It is impossible to live life without trusting, having faith, in someone or something. For most people, it’s their own 5 senses that they trust. In Psalm 7, David was very clear about just who it was he counted on in life: “O LORD my God, in You I put my trust.” You only have to read a few of his songs to discover that he did not trust in his own capabilities or his own understanding. He had learned to rely on and cling to God alone to get through life. He knew that God wanted him to place all of his trust in Him.

Does that mean we don’t have any responsibilities concerning what we do in and with our lives, that it is completely up to God to act? Seventeenth century pastor Samuel Rutherford said, “Duties are ours, events are God’s.” We need to continue to seek God in His word and in prayer as we try the doors of life. There is an African proverb that says, “Only a fool tests the depth of the water with both feet.” We must continue to do what God has directed us to do in Scripture, and ask Him to close any doors that are not in His will for us and to open the doors that are.

“LORD, we want to be wise and follow Your direction today. Don’t let us miss Your guidance, we ask in Jesus’ name.”
