Psalm 60:11–12: “Give us help from trouble, / For the help of man is useless. / Through God we will do valiantly, / For it is He who shall tread down our enemies.”

In the midst of David’s battle, he was clearly focusing on God alone for comfort, relief, and salvation. His psalm instructs us to do the same when we find ourselves in similar difficulties. We need to be continually reminded to resist the temptation toward a dependency on man instead of God. David could say that all he had seen had taught him to trust the Creator for all he had not seen. He had learned the truth that God alone is reliable and will give victory over and over again.

A wise man of God told me long ago:

Trust in yourself and you are doomed to disappointment; trust in your friends and they will die and leave you; trust in money and you may have it taken from you; trust in reputation and some slanderous tongue may blast it; but trust in God, and you will never be confounded in time or eternity.

“LORD, we place our trust anew in You alone, because You alone have the words of eternal life.”
