Psalm 125:1: “Those who trust in the LORD / Are like Mount Zion, / Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.”
May 10th, 2024 by Pastor Ed in devotionalDavid says that those who put their full weight on the LORD and completely trust in Him, cannot be moved or literally shaken. He who made the mountains is our security so we should have no fear in serving Him with all our heart and strength. How is the Lord like Mount Zion? Certainly a mountain has stability. No doubt when David was a little boy, he first observed Mount Zion on the skyline, only a few miles from his home in Bethlehem. When he became a young man, the mountain was still there, unchanged and secure as he tended sheep within its view. And when he grew old, Zion was still there. Mount Zion is there to this very day, 3000 years later. Our God is stable and dependable and He will never change.
Many believers seem to serve the LORD as though the Christian life is like walking a tightrope without a net over the Grand Canyon. But Scripture tells us that reality is just the opposite. The little New Testament book of Jude tells us that we are to have confidence that God is able to keep us from falling and get us to heaven safely: “To Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy” (v. 24, NIV). God is able where we are not: “being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform” (Rom. 4:21, NKJV). Or as someone said, “I can’t, but God can.” God is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb. 13:8). When we trust our life to Him, we can be assured that He is both willing and able to bring us all the way home.
LORD, we confess that You are able even when we are not. We look to You to keep us unmoved and secure this day.”
