Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, / And lean not on your own understanding; / In all your ways acknowledge Him, / And He shall direct your paths.”
June 7th, 2024 by Pastor Ed in devotionalThe Hebrew word for trust includes the idea of taking refuge or throwing oneself down on the ground before someone. Trust in God, then, means to lie down before Him and give Him all the concerns that are frustrating us. The Apostle Peter said it this way in 1 Peter 5:7, “[cast] all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.”
Strangely, many people trust physicians and pharmacists much more than they trust God. They go to a physician whose name they cannot pronounce and whose degrees they have never verified. That physician gives them a prescription they cannot read, which they take to a pharmacist they have never met. That pharmacist gives them a container of pills containing chemicals they don’t understand. Nevertheless, they go home and take the pills according to the instructions on the container, all the while completely trusting both the physician and the pharmacist. If we trusted the same way in the only One who deserves such trust, how different our lives might be.
“LORD, please forgive us for not relying on You and You alone. We choose to put our whole weight on You this day, in Jesus’ name.”
