Proverbs 31:28: “Her children rise up and call her blessed; / Her husband also, and he praises her:”
July 5th, 2024 by Pastor Ed in devotionalGodly mothers, this promise requires you to be patient, because this may not happen until your children are at least 30 years old. Teenagers rarely recognize that you are the source of the wisdom that is making them godly, but some day they will. Famous pastor and expositor G. Campbell Morgan had 4 sons who all became pastors. At a family reunion, a friend asked one of the sons, “Which Morgan is the greatest preacher?” The son looked at his father and then replied, “Mother.” He saw his mother as the greatest preacher in their family because she was there the most, teaching them the great truths of the faith.
The same can be said for the wives of many godly pastors. We begin to understand this concept when we learn about the wives of several gifted men of God. We understand why God was using Billy Graham when we read about his wife Ruth Graham. We understand the same thing when we discover Francis Schaeffer and then his wife, Edith Schaffer, and Loren and Darleen Cunningham, and Chuck and Kay Smith. We’ve learned that behind almost every well-known man of God, there can be found a godly, Proverbs 31 woman.
There is one other important observation about these men and women of God that needs to be mentioned. Godly men and women realize that they have been given a responsibility to help each other become everything God wants them to be. Godly husbands and wives pray for and encourage each other, rather than put each other down, complaining about what the other is not doing well. No man or woman comes perfect, but God can develop any believing person into the godly man or woman we all desire to be, and desire to be married to. We must treat each other with respect, supporting, encouraging, and praying for each other as God transforms us more and more into His image.
“LORD, we desire to become wise people of God who encourage others to become everything You want them to be this day. Give us words of life for others we ask in Jesus’ name.”
