Song of Solomon 3:11: “Go forth, O daughters of Zion, / And see King Solomon with the crown / With which his mother crowned him / On the day of his wedding, / The day of the gladness of his heart.”
July 20th, 2024 by Pastor Ed in devotionalIt doesn’t take much imagination to see how this verse is symbolic of the return of Jesus Christ for His bride, the church. The wedding day spoken of here can also be seen as a picture of the coming “marriage supper of the Lamb,” where we, the bride of Christ, will sit at that great, sweeping table with Him. It was part of the vision given to the Apostle John: “Then he said to me, ‘Write: “Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!'” (Rev. 19:9).
Weddings are often elaborate, spectacular events. In our society, it is not unusual for thousands of dollars to be spent in an attempt to produce a perfect moment for a couple as they join together in marital bliss. The bride traditionally comes down the aisle dressed in a pure-white gown, as the groom stands nervously at the front of the church. It is a dreamed about moment, representing the realization of many hopes and expectations both of the couple and the people who know and love them. If earthly weddings are so special, just imagine what God has planned for the marriage supper that we, His bride, are invited to!
Of course there would be no wedding if the bride did not first respond to the offer of marriage. So God patiently waits for unbelievers to respond to His invitation: “And the Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let him who hears say, ‘Come!’ And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely” (Rev. 22:17).
“LORD, we do ask You to come but we also rejoice in the fact that You want ‘all to come to repentance,’ so we ask You to use us this day for Your Kingdom.”
