Song of Solomon 6:1: “Where has your beloved gone, / O fairest among women? / Where has your beloved turned aside, / That we may seek him with you?”

We are told that this is the choir (The Daughters of Jerusalem) responding, “Where has your beloved gone?” Now that the daughters of Jerusalem have heard the bride praise the bridegroom for his many positive qualities, they also have an interest in finding him. They want to join the bride in searching for the king.

If we continue with the analogy of Jesus as the bridegroom and the church as the bride, then these daughters of Jerusalem are the outsiders who observe the bride’s praise and adoration. Could this be a picture of people visiting a modern day church service and becoming interested in meeting Jesus as they observe the worship service? We are sure of it. We had an interesting call from a woman visiting from out of state who attended a service at our church. She called to say that God had been speaking to her ever since the visit, and that she wanted to tell us that she saw “Jesus in the people here.” That was not the first time we have heard such comments. Sometimes they say they don’t understand what it was that was so attractive to them, or they don’t understand why they cried all the way through the worship music, but they usually end by saying they want to come and visit again.

On the day of Pentecost in the book of Acts, the multitudes were drawn in as they heard 120 people praising and worshiping the King in other tongues. They were gathering around that worship service and saying, “What is this?” As a result, 3000 of them were saved. The bride of Christ is the witness God has left so that mankind can grasp just who God is and what He wants to be to them.

“LORD, we do want to unashamedly praise, honor, and worship You, the only King of Kings, this day.”
