Isaiah 3:10: “Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, / For they shall eat the fruit of their doings.”
July 28th, 2024 by Pastor Ed in devotionalIn the middle of this chapter, which predicts the destruction of Jerusalem and the deportation of the Jewish people, is found this verse promising God’s faithfulness to those who have placed their trust in Him. Over and over again in Scripture, God promises that those who are right with Him (trusting in, believing in, relying on Him) will flourish and their lives will be fruitful. When we say that God protects those who follow Him, that is not to say they won’t have difficult times in life. In reality, it often seems just the opposite, as even more difficulties come into a believer’s lives. But God clearly promises to be with us and to help us through the hard times.
God’s promises are reliable. Many have reminded us that we can’t break God’s promises by leaning on them! Many believers have found encouragement in the words of that old hymn written by Thomas Chisholm, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”:
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!
It is interesting to learn that Chisholm did not write this hymn because of some great miraculous thing that had happened in his life, but rather as he looked back over his life and saw the great faithfulness of God. At the age of 75 he wrote:
My income has not been large at any time due to impaired health in the earlier years, which has followed me on until now. Although I must not fail to record here the unfailing faithfulness of a covenant-keeping God and that He has given me many wonderful displays of His providing care, for which I am filled with astonishing gratefulness.
“LORD, we remind ourselves that You are faithful to us even when we fail to be faithful to You. Forgive us and use us this day we ask in Jesus’ name.”
