Isaiah 64:4: “For since the beginning of the world / Men have not heard nor perceived by the ear, / Nor has the eye seen any God besides You, / Who acts for the one who waits for Him.”
September 27th, 2024 by Pastor Ed in devotionalGod’s acts are unique, displayed in the Old Testament and testified to by many eyewitnesses. And His acts on behalf of His people greatly impacted the surrounding heathen nations as well. The promise here is that when God’s people wait for Him, they will eventually see Him act for them. The promise is true even if it does not happen in this life, because God swore it would happen ultimately.
In the New Testament the Apostle Paul referenced these words in 1 Corinthians 2:9: “But as it is written: ‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, / Nor have entered into the heart of man / The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”’ The Lord also spoke through the prophet Isaiah, back in Isaiah 40, about a special blessing connected with waiting for God.
28Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the LORD,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.29He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.30Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,31But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:28–31)
God is saying that He is not limited in energy, knowledge, or caring so He is never too tired or distracted to speak into our lives, if we will simply wait in quietness for Him to do so.
“LORD, we wait on You to speak to us through Your Word, Your servants, or directly into our hearts this day. LORD, we are listening and waiting in silence.”
