Ezekiel 7:19: “They will throw their silver into the streets, / And their gold will be like refuse; / Their silver and their gold will not be able to deliver them / In the day of the wrath of the LORD; / They will not satisfy their souls, / Nor fill their stomachs, / Because it became their stumbling block of iniquity.”
December 2nd, 2024 by Pastor Ed in devotionalEzekiel gave God’s people a clear warning that their money would become worthless. He described a day that would soon come, when they would toss their money into the gutter because it would be useless. It is good for us to pause and consider things that we thought were so important but that just a few years later were useless. The list of electronic gadgets just over the last 50 years should make us all smile. Even cell phones from 5 or 10 years ago are today considered to be as useless as buggy whips and eight-track music tapes. Soon even the latest highly desirable and cutting edge electronics will be just another piece of trash discarded in some landfill.
The people in Ezekiel’s day had grown cold in their relationship with God because they had put their eyes onto unimportant, temporal things. They had failed to keep the main thing, the main thing. One way we can stay focused is to occasionally ask ourselves, “If I only had 24 hours to live, what would I do?” No thinking person would use those brief hours to check their savings account or stock portfolio. Most of us would be spending that precious time with loved ones and making sure the unbelieving ones heard the Good News one more time. Perhaps that means then, that the things we value most in life are relationships with loved ones. Today it would be good to major on relationships, being careful not to get caught up majoring in minors.
“LORD, our relationship with You is the most important one today. Help us to keep it first as we also seek to touch others for You.”
