Esther 8:7–8: “Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and Mordecai the Jew, ‘Indeed, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows because he tried to lay his hand on the Jews. You yourselves write a decree for the Jews, as you please, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s signet ring; for whatever is written in the king’s name and sealed with the king’s signet ring no one can revoke.'”

And in Persian culture, laws could not be broken or revoked, not even by the king himself. The king was a wise man and put the issue into the hands of his wife, the queen, and the new prime minister, Mordecai. He knew that no matter how he solved it there would be problems, so he allowed them to make a new law, to in effect override the first. It seems the king understood that Esther and Mordecai had active faith.
Having faith does not mean we just stand idly by while God solves all our problems. Sometimes we wait for God to do what God is waiting for us to do. Our heavenly Father wants us to have an active faith, a faith that stretches us out of our comfort zone. These 2 believers were about to become agents of change in their world. God was using them to change the course of history in the lives of many people but especially the people of God.
God has called each one of us to also be agents of change in our generation. You and I are called to be salt and light to the world around us. We are called to stay on planet earth for a while in order to display before others what it means for a believer to live a surrendered life.
“LORD, give us the courage to be agents of change in the lives of those around us.”
