Using the Bad for Good

My dear friend Annie Herring, from Second Chapter of Acts, wrote a song years ago that has had a amazing impact on my life. Many of you probably remember it. The song goes like this “fly away little burden, fly away off my shoulder. Yesterday was a burden, yesterday I was older. Clouds of gray will pass away and weigh on me no more. I threw the looking glass away, He’s at the door.”

That song changed my life in so many ways. When we take our eyes off of ourselves, when we throw the looking glass away, we see Him! About the time that we think that we have the worst of the worst of problems, if we look up and look around, we see others that are struggling and suffering as much or even more. And we have the key in our hands! Right there! To offer comfort, and encouragement, and eternal life! Just like everybody else, I need to be reminded to get my eyes off my own issues and look around me.

Yesterday I had a chance to sit and pray with a mother whose young son is struggling with brain cancer and with a young girl who is going back into chemo again when she should be outside playing and enjoying life. I got to encourage them and help them get their eyes up. I prayed with a wonderful woman whose dear friend has cancer. Her friend is so discouraged she’s shutting her out. The woman feels unable to reach her sick friend.

As these people shared their hearts with me, I watched as my little dog cuddle into their arms, and I realized that God has given me an amazing opportunity to minister through a little dog. Oh, it was amazing because I see how God intends to use the bad things like cancer in my life for good. It is the ultimate coup on Satan isn’t it?

I AM a blessed woman!
