  • For Want of a King …

As we studied through the Book of Judges we were struck with the three times repeated phrase, “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” Now as we come to the Book of 1 Samuel we will find that Israel will get their first human king named Saul. Although he is just what the people want, he is instead just what Israel deserves. We will then be introduced to their second king, David who God chooses because he is a man after God’s heart. The story of the struggle between Saul the reigning king and David the coming king makes for exciting reading and spiritual insight into our own life and times. This book ends with Saul’s death and the door opening for the new king David. May God use this book to make us men and women after His heart and help us to let Him be King in our lives and world.
